STMicroelectronics was created in 1987 by the merger of two semiconductor companies, SGS Microelettronica of Italy and Thomson Semiconducteurs of France, and has been publicly traded since 1994 on the New York Stock Exchange, on Euronext Paris, and on Borsa Italiana. STMicroelectronics is one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies with net revenues of US$ 10.35 billion in 2010.
